For more than 35 years, Karlsons has represented automobile and automotive parts manufacturers, including successfully defending Volkswagen, Audi, BMW and Volvo cars in cases involving automotive design and manufacture. He has also supervised defense appellate activities relating to products liability and discovery issues, including those specific to foreign corporations, such as jurisdiction, service of process and foreign discovery.

In addition, Karlsons has acted as counsel to the Government of Latvia and participated in cross-border litigation in negotiation of oil licenses on its behalf. He is active in the Latvian business community and a member of the Latvian-American Bar Association, Latvian Lawyer's Society and Latvian Advocates College. Fluent in German, Latvian and Russian, Karlsons also defends consumer product, recreational equipment, forklift, man lift and other material handling equipment manufacturers. He received his J.D. from Stanford University Law School (1968) and his B.A., cum laude, from Yale University (1965).

Fluent in German and proficient in Russian, Dr. Kemner concentrates on defense of products liability claims, primarily for European manufacturers, in litigation in the U.S. and Europe. In addition to his product liability practice, he represents German clients in U.S. litigation involving software copyright violations, tortious interference, trade mark and related claims. Dr. Kemner has a particular expertise representing clients in challenging personal jurisdiction of U.S. courts over non-U.S. defendants, defending claims under the Alien Tort Claims Act and before the International Arbitration Panels in large-scale business disputes.

Dr. Kemner assists European clients in the formation and acquisition of international subsidiary companies in Europe, Africa and the U.S. He represents clients in an array of commercial negotiations, including ship purchasing, alternative energy contract negotiations, and mergers and acquisitions. Dr. Kemner previously served two years as a full-time fellow in Sonderforschungsbereich 178, a German "think tank" focusing on issues of international law and economics, including projects of pure research as well as representation of clients in areas of international commercial law. He received his J.D., with honors, from the University of Missouri Law School (1991), his Ph.D., magna cum laude, from Universitat Konstnaz (1996) and B.A., with honors, from Southern Methodist University (1988).
